FOREST'S NETBALL TEAM MANAGER OPENS UP ABOUT HER MUM'S BREAST CANCER BATTLE AS PLAYERS VISIT ‘BRILLIANT’ CLINIC
Nottingham Forest's netball and football players and staff at the City Hospital's Breast Institute
A SENIOR figure at Nottingham Forest has opened up about her mother's battle with breast cancer as she joined her players in a visit to a specialist clinic at the City Hospital.
Sian Foley, who leads the Red’s netball team, joined fellow players and members of the women’s football side at the Breast Institute at Nottingham City Hospital to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The centre opened in 2004 and provides outpatients appointments, breast screening services and followup visits to more than 35,000 patients a year.
Speaking to the Post, team manager Foley opened up about her own mum’s battle with breast cancer, having survived two diagnoses.
“A few years ago she detected some subtle changes in one of her breasts and got it checked out at the GP,’ she said.
“We unfortunately found out she did had a progressed version of breast cancer and she had to have a third of her breasts removed.
“She is now on medication for the rest of her life that keeps it at bay - but I think things like this can feel a little embarrassing for people to talk about.
