NOTTS County have been under fire for their handling of the transfer window, which ultimately led director of football Roberto Gagliardi to leave after only five months with the club.

Business as usual after Gagliardi departure, insist Magpies owners

After some high-profile departures this summer, including last season's top scorer, David McGoldrick and starting goalkeeper Alex Bass, many supporters felt they were not adequately replaced with those who were brought in.

The funds the owners promised supporters were there but they did not seem to have been laid out on the signings the club did make, which were mostly free transfers and loan deals.

It seemed Gagliardi was the man to take the fall in the end; however, the pressure will remain on the owners to invest more into the team, depending on what head coach Martin Paterson can get out of what he has in the squad already.

"In football, I'm never surprised," said Paterson on Gagliardi’s departure.

"I know that sounds quite brutal but things happen so quickly.
