Care home boss treks the Sahara for dementia cause

A LLANELLI care home manager has raised £3,000 for a dementia cause close to her heart by tackling a 50-mile trek across the Sahara Desert.

Sarah Morgan, 38, is general manager at the town’s Hafan Y Coed care home and wanted to challenge herself and raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. She was motivated by her work with residents at the home and her own experience of loved ones with dementia.

She said: "I’ve been the manager for four years, but I've worked here for 12 years, so obviously I wanted to give something back. I started going to the gym, started doing running, just doing some 10k runs and things like that. Then one night at middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, I saw an advert for this Sahara challenge on Facebook and I thought, ‘well why not?"
