Pilgrimage through the Alps is a refreshing take on reality TV

As a prolonged journey focused on inward reflection, a pilgrimage may sound like it makes dull TV. However, BBC Two proves that it is anything but.

Pilgrimage: The Road Through the Alps sees seven celebrities-actor and writer Jay McGuinness, paralympian Stefanie Reid, The Traitors winner Harry Clark, TV presenter Jeff Brazier, journalist Nelufar Hedayat and comedians Helen Lederer and Daliso Chaponda - undertake a 12 day journey to the Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland.

"It's like walking into a postcard," says McGuinness. And with glistening, snowy mountains and a glowing sun, I don't think he could be more right.

With not much to do apart from walk and talk, Pilgrimage sees its celebrity cast, coming from a range of beliefs and backgrounds, discuss and debate what faith means to them. Though the route they follow is mapped out by medieval Catholicism, Pilgrimage holds space for conversations for other denominations and religions.
