NOISE complaints and parking are the two biggest gripes neighbours have with each other, a survey has found.

Boffins also found toys ending up in each other's gardens, nosy neighbours - including those with intrusive CCTV - and pungent smells to be bones of contention.

Neighbourly life has long been a defining feature of Irish communities, but modern living is reshaping how people connect with those living nearby.

Hybrid working, busier towns and cities, and changing housing patterns mean neighbours are spending more time close together, but not always feeling closer as a result.

The research explored how people feel about their neighbours, the acts of kindness they experience, the issues they face and how they respond when tensions arise.

The study from the home insurance comparison site Chill also revealed not using the bins correctly or a neighbour impeding on the property boundaries also irked others.

But the survey revealed 45% of those quizzed said they were happy with their current neighbour relationships meaning more than half aren't.
