Taxi driver behaviour under scrutiny

The reckless driving of taxis along Nelson Mandela Boulevard has once again come under the spotlight after a collision between a minibus taxi and a bus at the entrance to Thembalethu on Monday morning, 10 November. Only the taxi driver was hospitalised with minor injuries. The taxi wasn't carrying any passengers at the time of the accident.

A recent accident at the entrance to Thembalethu, where a bus and a minibus taxi collided.

The incident has reignited public frustration over the apparent lawlessness of taxi drivers on this busy stretch of road. During a recent drive from the CBD to Thembalethu Court, one witness reported seeing taxi drivers speeding, ignoring red lights, stopping randomly, and even driving partly on the pavement to overtake other vehicles. Allegedly, all with no visible traffic enforcement in sight.
