Bowyer delighted to see 'fruits of labour'

BURTON boss Gary Bowyer described their Vertu Trophy game with Crewe Alexandra as a 'great night for the academy' and a 'fabulous learning experience' for his youngsters as he urged them to push on now.

A grand total of 13 academy graduates and scholars were named in the squad and they put on a respectable showing despite the harsh 3-1 scoreline in the end.

Analysing the tie, Bowyer said: "The first thing is we are disappointed that we haven't won the game. Fabio Tavares could have had four in the first half and certainly should have scored his penalty which would have made it even more interesting.

"But it was a great night for the academy and for the individuals and parents that were here watching their lads make their debut and at the same time competing as well as what we did.
