Skipper Ilkay worth weight in goals for Treble chasers

ILKAY GUNDOGAN joked he doesn't need extra time in the weight room for lifting trophies.

He is certainly getting plenty of practice at the moment.

But wouldn't Manchester City love to have him lift his pen and sign a new contract.

While all-conquering City are winning trophies, their captain is leading by example and delivering when it really matters.

Before May, the German had scored five goals this season. But May - and in this weird World Cup-split season, now June - is when trophies are won and Gundogan is playing a pivotal role in winning them.

His brace on Saturday saw off Manchester United to ensure the second part of the Treble was secured with the FA Cup.

Early last month, it was his double which downed Leeds and then he got two in a 3-0 win at Everton.

And let's not forget his two goals in five minutes pulled City back from the brink in May of last year against Aston Villa to clinch the Premier League title.
