What should you do if you get bitten by an animal abroad?
"Animal bites abroad should always be taken seriously, even if they appear minor. In some countries, particularly in parts of Asia, Africa and Central America, rabies is still present in animals like dogs, monkeys and bats and it's almost always fatal if not treated quickly. If bitten or scratched: Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and clean water for several minutes. Apply an antiseptic if you have one. Seek medical attention immediately, even if the bite seems minor. Post-exposure rabies vaccination may be required, and it's most effective when started early. Don't wait until you return home to get checked. Even licks from infected animals can transmit rabies if there's broken skin."
What's the best way to treat a wasp or bee sting?
"If a sting is visible, gently remove it using the edge of a card or your fingernail. Avoid using tweezers or pinching it, as that can squeeze more venom into the skin. Once the sting is removed: Wash the area with soap and water.
