Bill will make it harder for killers to be freed without locating victims’ remains

- BY NORMAN SILVESTER

THE families of murdered Suzanne Pilley and Arlene Fraser yesterday welcomed plans for a new law to make it harder for their killers to be freed from prison.

They met yesterday with Justice Minister Angela Constance in Glasgow to seek a commitment from her that she will deliver on the introduction of a “Suzanne's Law”.

The legislation will ensure future parole decisions must take into account when killers refuse to disclose the location of their victim's remains.

The bodies of Suzanne and Arlene have never been found and their killers have refused to say what they did with them.

Suzanne's Law is named after Edinburgh bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley, who was killed by her former lover, David Gilroy, in 2010.

Under current legislation, Gilroy will be eligible to be considered for parole in March 2030, while Nat Fraser - who was found guilty of killing his wife Arlene - will be eligible in October 2028.
