Crash victim's daughter blasts driver's sentence as 'a slap on the wrist'

- DAVID MEIKLE

A WOMAN whose father died after a prison officer struck him with his car has blasted the justice system after he walked free from court.

Robert Jardine, 40, was returning from a night shift at HMP Addiewell in West Lothian when he hit dog walker William Henderson in Cumbernauld.

Grandad William, 42, was rushed to hospital but died hours later in May last year.

At Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday, Jardine, of Cumbernauld, admitted causing death by careless driving.

Sheriff Paul Haran ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and disqualified him from driving for a year.
