Honoured after 80 years

Wren Janet, 102, is presented with war medal

A 102-YEAR-OLD former Wren has been presented with the War Medal 1939-45 more than 80 years after the conflict ended and she left the Armed Forces.

Her family believe great-grandmother Janet Patterson, who served in the Women's Royal Naval Service, must be one of the last living people to receive the campaign medal.

She was presented with it in front of her family at the Royal Star & Garter home in Solihull, West Mids, where she lives, after her daughter Gill and son David applied for it.
