Wrestling star Hulk Hogan is dead at 71

WRESTLING legend Hulk Hogan — who transformed the sport from smoke-filled arenas to global entertainment — has died at the age of 71.

Police said they were called to reports of a cardiac arrest at the star's home in Clearwater, Florida, at 10am local time. He was treated “in place” before being taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The death of the moustachioed megastar comes just five days after he was seen on social media advertising beer. The WWE said: “We are saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognisable figures, he helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.

“WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans.”
