SHANE LOWRY wanted to keep the emotions under wraps in his second Ryder Cup

- Neil McLeman

SHANE'S BORN TO BE SO WILD

But the passionate Irishman's attempt ended before he had even hit his opening shot.

The 2019 Open champion was standing on the first tee, with the crowd already belting out his name to the tune of the Cranberries' 'Zombie', when Viktor Hovland chipped in from off the green up ahead.

Lowry responded with a wild, fist-pumping celebration to set the tone for a crazy, magical foursomes morning.

"I stood on the first tee trying to stay calm," he said, laughing. "And I'm watching Viktor on the big screen - he chipped in and I lost it.

"That's what the Ryder Cup does to me. It's a very special tournament.

"Luke Donald spoke to me about keeping Sepp Straka, who is a very easy going, laid-back type of fella, the way he is.
