Train worker who tried to stop rampage knifeman left fighting for survival
A HERO steward was last night fighting for his life after he single-handedly confronted the Huntingdon train knifeman.
Police said the rail worker “undoubtedly saved many people’s lives” in an attempt to stop the marauding attacker during Saturday night’s rampage on a service bound for London’s King’s Cross station.
Ten passengers were taken to hospital after the mass stabbing — one of the UK’s most shocking knife attacks. British Transport Police said: "Five casualties have now been discharged from hospital and one remains in a life-threatening condition.
"This casualty is a member of LNER rail staff who was on the train at the time and tried to stop the attacker.
"Detectives have reviewed the CCTV from the train and it is clear his actions were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved many people's lives." A 32-year-old British man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains in custody. The suspect is from Peterborough where he boarded the train, officers said.
A 35-year-old British man who was also detained at the scene was released with no further action. A knife was recovered by police at the scene, which they believe was not motivated by terrorism.
