Codeta considers upping taxi fares

The Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) has raised concerns about the impact of recent fuel price hikes on commuters and taxi operators, warning that fare increases may become unavoidable as costs continue to rise.

- KEANAN HARMSE

Codeta spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana told City Vision the association was under growing pressure, operators already feeling the strain of higher fuel prices.

“We are really worried about the petrol hike and how it is going to affect commuters. The people who are going to suffer most are those in our communities. Even now, as we speak, we are in a very tight corner.”

This follows last week’s fuel increases, where a litre of diesel rose by R5,27 and petrol by R3,27 a litre.
