What happens after the commissions of inquiry?

WHO would have thought when months ago Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, SAPS head in KwaZulu-Natal, made his earth-shattering allegations about corruption at the highest levels in the SAPS and in political circles, that it would descend to the level that the two parallel inquiries, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and the Parliamentary Ad-hoc Inquiry, have done?

As evidence is led, accusations made, refuted, attacked, and cross-examination by evidence leaders unfolds, it would be easy to fall under the spell of what now seems to be something of a soap opera, what with the nightly TV coverage of the two hearings, often late into the night.

Daily news reports reveal claims and counter claims that are increasingly outlandish, so asking “where will it all end?” is a cogent question. Are we likely to see any high-profile arrests, trials and conviction, or will it all end up where the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into state capture ended up, with little in the way of any retribution despite the overwhelming evidence of wrong doing?
