Miss England organisers are appealing for entrants for their Bare Faced Top Model contest - after only FIVE women entered makeup free.

Hit or miss for the bare faced chic at Miss England contest

Director Angie Beasley previously considered scrapping the no makeup round of the competition following a backlash from some beauty queens.

Competitors later voted to keep it, but as an optional round, after it had been running for six years as a way to promote and celebrate natural beauty.

But in the latest regional heat of the competition in the Midlands, only five women out of more than 40 opted to go makeup free.

The round previously divided opinion with some arguing it prevented women from being able to make their own choices about their appearance.

But others believed it was empowering women by focusing on natural looks and a more realistic body image in a social media-obsessed era.
