Teachers need to be 'more Birmingham bin worker'

MP PHILLIPS SAYS SCHOOL STAFF 'OUGHT TO COMPLAIN MORE' - BUT NOT GO ON STRIKE

TEACHERS ought to “complain more” and schools haven't received sufficient recognition for the burdens they've shouldered, home office minister Jess Phillips has said.

Addressing girls’ school headteachers on Tuesday, Ms Phillips, who serves as minister for safeguarding and violence against women and girls and MP for Birmingham Yardley, suggested teachers should “be more Birmingham bin worker’ before quipping: “But don’t go on strike.”

“Teachers should be allowed to teach and enrich the lives of young people and not have to worry so much about their homes and whether their clothes are clean, whether they've got enough to eat,” Ms Phillips said at the Girls’ School Association (GSA) conference in London, as she discussed headteachers in her constituency going the extra mile for their pupils.
