'Don't be afraid' to visit city, say police

PLEA COMES AFTER WAVE OF KNIFE ATTACKS IN BIRMINGHAM

A SENIOR police officer has told people worried about visiting Birmingham city centre: "Please don't be afraid".

Following a recent wave of knife crime and antisocial behaviour in the city centre, some parents feel "nervous" about letting their children visit the Christmas market alone - with one mum saying she was a "nervous wreck".

At least 12 people have been stabbed in or around in the heart of Birmingham this year. Just last week, three men in their twenties suffered stab wounds.

But West Midlands Police have reassured the public they are doing everything they can to help the public feel safe and relaxed at the Christmas market.
