WHERE is the best place to live in the West Midlands?
The question has been answered with new rankings of 294 local authorities in England according to crime statistics, house prices, schools, access to NHS services and amenities.
In the West Midlands it is no surprise that local authorities in leafier areas rank higher than urban areas.
The Mail headed out to Walsall and South Staffordshire to see how life compared between areas near the top and bottom of the rankings.
We ventured to Darlaston and Perton, which is a relatively new village built in 1972 near the Wolverhampton border.
Each local authority was assessed across five individual categories, which were housing, crime, schools, NHS and amenities.
