India's pursuit of renewable energy has gained tremendous momentum in recent years, fuelled by growing energy demand and the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions. Responding to the challenge, the nation has effectively turned its attention to developing better and more sustainable sources of energy. It is important to underline here that India has emerged as one of the fastest among major economies to adapt to the shift towards renewable energy, adding over 130 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy sources till October 2023. Further, to accelerate the development of the renewable energy sector, India has implemented various initiatives, programmes, policies, and incentives including Green Hydrogen Mission, beyond large-scale investments in traditional solar, wind, and hydro projects. With a goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, the government has set ambitious targets. Private sector companies are also actively investing billions of dollars in renewable energy projects, in line with the government's vision. Although progress has been made, challenges persist, particularly regarding the underlying communication infrastructure. However, the emergence of new high-throughput satellite (HTS) connectivity solutions offer a promising solution to overcome these obstacles and ensure optimal performance of renewable energy projects.
