While spring brings blossoming gardens, longer days and a renewed sense of energy, for many pets, it also marks the start of itchy skin, watery eyes and endless scratching. South Africa's climate – warm, humid summers and dry, dusty winters – can make pet allergies especially challenging. In rural areas, pets may be exposed to grass pollens, while city pets may suffer from dust and air pollution. Allergies in pets are more common than most owners realise, and knowing how to spot them – and what to do in an emergency – can make all the difference.
