A woman's health encompasses her physical, emotional, mental, and reproductive well-being. Unique challenges - ranging from breast and reproductive cancers to osteoporosis, urinary infections, and mental health issues - require consistent attention. Hormonal shifts make women more prone to these conditions, and regular checkups are crucial for early intervention. As the ancient science of Yoga teaches: “Prevention is better than cure.”

Yet, many women prioritize their families and careers over personal well-being. In truth, a healthy woman is better equipped to care for others and contribute meaningfully to society. In today's fast-paced world, health is wealth, and caring for oneself is the foundation of self-reliance.
Recognizing this, The Yoga Institute hosted an awareness session titled “A Woman's Health” on May 18, 2025. The guest speaker was Dr. Nitin Rao, a senior gynecologist with 40+ years of experience and longstanding ties with the Institute. The session covered a wide range of topics, highlighting holistic care from adolescence to menopause and beyond. The key topics covered at this session were:
1.Menstrual Health
Menstrual issues are common, yet often ignored: Irregular cycles over 45 days or less than 15 days need medical attention.
Heavy or scanty bleeding, especially during perimenopause, should not be dismissed.
Painful periods (dysmenorrhea) can be managed with Yoga Asanas like Bhadrasana and Matsyasana, warm castor oil massages, hot water bags, and antispasmodics.
Dr. Rao also addressed endometriosis, a painful condition requiring early diagnosis and possibly surgical care.
2.Pregnancy and Fertility
Pregnancy is a transformative journey, requiring physical and emotional preparedness. Rising infertility rates (15-20%) are linked to delayed marriages and age-related fertility decline. Women are born with a limited number of eggs, and egg quality diminishes rapidly after age 35.
