The best and the brightest from across the galaxy are boldly going to the 32nd century in a Star Trek spin-off set among Starfleet Academy's next generation of leaders.

The 10-part series is based in the same time period where Star Trek: Discovery left off and stars Holly Hunter as the captain of the USS Athena, Nahla Ake.

'I used to watch Star Trek with my father when I was eight years old. It's extraordinary that this story is still being told and people have a hunger for it,' says Oscar-winning The Piano star Hunter, 67. 'The pull of that was exotic and interesting, but so was the challenge of playing the captain who is 422 years old!'
