At first look, Kristen Gilbert appeared to be a hardworking and intelligent, middle-class soccer mum of two living a lovely life in the US state of Massachusetts.

But the nurse held sinister secrets. Gilbert’s deadly double-life bubbled to the surface when, just before her 30th birthday, she was arrested on suspicion of serial murder. Killing her patients at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she worked, Gilbert injected them with lethal doses of epinephrine, also known as adrenalin, causing them to have heart attacks.
