WALES will bow out of the women's Rugby World Cup at the pool stages but head coach Sean Lynn insists he has seen a "glimpse" of a much brighter future.

WORLD CUP DREAM IS OVER BUT LYNN SEES BRIGHT FUTURE

After last weekend's dismal defeat against Scotland in the opening game, Lynn made seven changes for Saturday's tough assignment against a Canada side ranked second in the world behind England.

Wales needed a win to have any chance of making the quarterfinals but were shut out 42-0 despite an encouraging start to the game.

Scotland's win over Fiji later in the day ensured they progress along with Canada, the pair meeting next weekend to see who tops the pool.

For Wales, it will now be a matter of playing for their pride in their final game of the competition against the Fijians.

Lynn had called for Wales to be brave as he introduced a number of younger players into the starting XV with a new captain in Bethan Lewis, who took over the armband from the injured squad co-captains Alex Callender and Kate Williams.

"I saw improvements and that's what I wanted," reflected Lynn.

"When I went in at half time I just said to the girls to empty the tanks in the second half. The big thing for me in the last 15 or 20 minutes or so was a glimpse of what I want us to be.

"Being brave, moving that ball and getting individuals with ball in hand.

"In the first 15 or 20 minutes we showed huge physicality but just didn't capitalise on all the good work.

"That's what we will be looking at and we've got to grow in confidence ahead of next week.

"When we get in the right areas we have to be more clinical.

"We knew it was going to be a big ask against Canada but I'm super proud of the girls.

"I asked for a reaction and that's what we got.

"I was impressed with a lot of things but we have to move forward in small steps."
