UNITED States Vice President JD Vance has criticised Israel's parliamentary vote on the annexation of the West Bank, saying it amounted to an “insult”.

Speaking on the tarmac of Tel Aviv's international airport before departing Israel, Mr Vance said that if the Knesset vote was a “political stunt, then it is a very stupid political stunt”.

“I personally take some insult to it,” Mr Vance said yesterday. “The policy of the Trump administration is that the West Bank will not be annexed by Israel.”

Mr Vance's scathing remarks came as his visit to the country wrapped up, and after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would be travelling to Israel.
