Yates: Moore will have his work cut out when Valiants are back up to full numbers

ADAM Yates believes there could be a lot of unhappy players at Port Vale once everyone is back fit.

The former Valiants defender was discussing the wing-back situation at Vale Park and thinks that the club may have too many on the books.

He also agrees with Darren Moore in that the wing-back position demands the highest fitness on the pitch.

Speaking on BBC Radio Stoke on what makes a good fit for the position, Yates - well placed to comment given it was his position for a decade at Vale Park - said: “You get fullbacks, right-backs and left-backs who are probably more defensive and sometimes centre-halves play in there.

“Some fullbacks naturally are more suited to wingers playing there sometimes.

“Also it depends on what type of team you are. If you look at some of the biggest teams in any league, if they play with wing-backs generally it's wingers who have played there because they have a lot more possession.

“It also depends on what type of players you've got at the top end of the pitch.

“The majority of my career, whether I was playing fullback or wing-back either side, I would deliver crosses as soon as I got in and around that final third.
