THE euphoria of Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League will keep the city buoyant in the coming weeks.

- By CLIVE YOULTON Football writer

It will banish the memories for those fans who remember the back-to-back relegations starting in 2016/17 which saw the club drop down into League One.

Phil Bardsley, who loved playing at the Stadium of Light during his stay at the club from January 2008 until June 2014, is delighted the club have fought their way back to the top tier once again.

Talking to Sportsboom, Bardsley reflected: “They've obviously suffered over recent years, playing League One football and in the Championship trying to get promoted, so for them to get back into the Premier League is like the good old days when I was there. We had some good times when I was there.
