MORE than 100 Huddersfield pubs and bars have been awarded the highest ranking when it comes to food hygiene.

Local authorities are responsible for enforcing the government's food hygiene ratings system which came into effect in 2010.

This allows the public to access information about the hygiene standards of food-related businesses. Fortunately, for those in Huddersfield and the surrounding areas, many venues have received a rating of 'five' from the Food Standards Agency.

A score of five means that a business has “very good” hygiene standards and is fully compliant with the law. At the other end of the spectrum is a rating of zero, meaning that “urgent improvement” is required.
