READERS SHARE THEIR VIEWS ON MOTORHOMES IN SALTBURN

- BY CLAIRE ELLIOTT

GAZETTE readers have joined the debate as Saltburn residents voice frustration over the growing number of motorhomes parking along Marine Parade.

Locals say their neighbourhood is “not a campsite” and want tougher action from the council.

Redcar and Cleveland Council has announced new restrictions which will ban motorhomes from parking on the south side of Marine Parade to ease congestion and improve access.

A four-hour parking limit will also be enforced in designated bays, while double yellow lines are being extended along a narrow stretch of the upper promenade to improve safety.

But some residents argue the measures don’t go far enough.

One local, who has lived on the parade for 18 years, said: “It is not that we object to motorhomes, it is the time they spend here. It is a residential area, not a campsite.”

He added that there were no proper facilities for waste disposal and alleged that some visitors had dumped waste over garden fences.

He also raised fire safety fears, saying: “Some of the time they are bumper to bumper”
