Alcover vows to stay role as council fiscalizer

Cebu City Councilor Pastor “Jun” Alcover Jr. clarified that a photo showing him shaking hands with Mayor Nestor Archival after an executive session does not mean he has softened his stance or will step back from his role as a fiscalizer in the City Council.

Alcover said the gesture was merely a courtesy extended to the mayor. The image of the two officials exchanging pleasantries circulated online and fueled speculation of a possible “reconciliation” between them.

Speaking to The Freeman, Alcover said he initiated the handshake to avoid awkwardness.

“Akoy unang ni-extend sa akong hands... bati man gud himuon nu’ng issue nga nag-atake ko kay nangambisyon mag-mayor. Wala ko nangambisyon,” he said, stressing that his disagreements with Archival are rooted in governance issues and not personal animosity.

He also dismissed claims that he has mayoral ambitions, citing the huge financial resources required to mount such a campaign.
