Ayurvedic Green Teas: Sip Your Way to Wellness

|July 02, 2025
The monsoon season brings relief from the scorching summer heat, but it also invites its own set of health challenges—digestive issues, respiratory troubles, low immunity, and water-borne infections.
Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life, offers holistic wisdom to support our body during this damp and humid season. One such solution is the use of herbal green teas, which can be easily prepared at home using common kitchen ingredients.
Unlike commercial green teas, homemade Ayurvedic green teas are caffeine-free, sattvic, and tailored to the specific needs of your dosha and the seasonal environment. During the monsoon, the Vata and Pitta doshas tend to get aggravated, while Kapha may accumulate due to increased dampness. These teas aim to balance the doshas, support digestion, boost immunity, and flush out toxins.
Here are some of the best Ayurvedic green tea recipes you can prepare at home this monsoon:
1. TULSI-GINGER GREEN TEA
Benefits: Boosts immunity, improves digestion, reduces inflammation, and prevents respiratory infections.
Ingredients:
5-6 fresh tulsi (holy basil) leaves
1 inch fresh ginger (grated)
1 tsp fennel seeds (optional)
2 cups water
A dash of honey (optional, after cooling slightly)
How to Prepare:
Boil water and add ginger, tulsi, and fennel seeds.
Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
Strain and sip warm.
Ayurvedic View: Tulsi pacifies Kapha and Vata, while ginger improves Agni (digestive fire), making this tea perfect for the damp and heavy monsoon weather.
2. CINNAMON-CLOVE DETOX TEA
Benefits: Warms the body, enhances metabolism, and acts as a mild detoxifier.
Ingredients:
1 small stick of cinnamon
2 cloves
1 cardamom pod (optional)
