Nissan plans in-house production for ultra-compact EVs from 2028

Nissan Motor, based in Japan, is contemplating a significant move: bringing the production of its ultra-compact electric vehicles in-house.

 This decision, relayed by five individuals familiar with the matter, stems from the triumph of its Sakura model, currently manufactured in collaboration with junior partner Mitsubishi Motors.

The proposal involves potentially relocating production to Nissan's factory situated on the southern island of Kyushu, with the initiative slated to commence in the business year starting April 2028, according to two insiders who preferred to remain anonymous due to the confidential nature of the information.

Both Nissan and Mitsubishi have refuted the existence of such a plan.
