ALEX PAYNE APPOINTED AS STEVE DRAKE 'STEPS AWAY'

- By JOSEPH BICKLE

ONE of Surrey's few Michelin-starred restaurants has announced that it has appointed a new chef-patron.

The new man at the helm in the kitchen has previously seen success in the high-dining industry, securing a Michelin star just six months after opening in his previous endeavour.

Sorrel in Dorking has announced that the reigns of chef-patron will pass from owner Steve Drake to Alex Payne. A spokesperson said this appointment represents a “next chapter” for the restaurant, with its new chef bringing “a wealth of experience, creativity and culinary finesse”.

Alex Payne was previously at the helm of Egham's The Tudor Pass at Great Fosters Hotel, where he and his team secured a Michelin star rating just six months after opening.

The now chef-patron of Sorrel has also worked in the kitchens of the world-famous Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blumenthal.
