'This win is for you, grandad' says sad Clegg

ALFIE Clegg has dedicated his Commonwealth Silver Flyweight title to his late grandad John Clegg.

The 25-year-old from Guildford claimed the second title of his professional career on Saturday night in a thrilling battle against Namibia's Jonas Erastus at the York Hall.

But the IBO World Youth champion had to overcome a hamstring tear and the sudden loss of his grandad two weeks before the bout.

"The whole camp there have been trials and tribulations, a lot has been going on," Clegg said. "I lost my grandad a couple of weeks ago. I've had injuries, tore my hamstring, heartbreak, a lot has gone on in this camp.

"But I have done this for my grandad, got the win for him, Grandad Clegg, so that is the main thing.
