Baseball bat-wielding man threatened police

A MAN was bitten on the backside by a police dog after he threatened an officer with a baseball bat.

Conner Etchells was inside an address in Pendower, Newcastle when he told the officer he would hit him with the weapon and pointed it at him.

A court heard that, despite numerous requests to drop the bat and calm down, the 28-year-old continued and even said he was going to get a machete.

It prompted the officer to eventually release his police dog, which ran towards Etchells and bit him on the rear.

Etchells was eventually arrested and a subsequent search of the property found the ‘machete’ to be a child’s plastic toy, similar to a pirate sword. Etchells, of Pendower Way, has now been given a 12-month community order after he pleaded guilty to affray.
