New-found proficiency with set pieces could give Cats an edge

SUNDERLAND have rightly received plenty of plaudits for their brilliant start to the season, but all of that counts for nought in this weekend's Wear-Tyne derby.

The clash with Newcastle United is their biggest game of the season, with bragging rights on the line.

The Black Cats have made a brilliant start to life back in the top flight, with 23 points from their opening 15 games, including wins over the likes of Chelsea and draws against Arsenal and Liverpool.

Le Bris' side has made those who predicted them to finish rock bot tom of the division look stupid and a win this weekend over their arch enemy will be another welcome milestone.

Red and White supporters have taken great pleasure in reminding those who tipped them for relegation that they're here to stay, but nothing comes close to the feeling of strolling into work with bragging rights.

Newcastle's 3-0 win over Sunder land in the FA Cup in January 2024 was the last meeting between the two sides, with the Black Cats going out with a whimper.
