Disabled drivers call for crackdown on misuse of their spaces

A PARKING crisis has emerged in the Black Country over a big shortage of Blue Badge spaces. Disabled drivers are calling for more parking bays and a crackdown on the misuse of the few available to help people who need to park closer to shops and services.

More than 700,000 penalty charge notices have been issued for Blue Badge space misuse in the last three years but it is an ongoing issue.

More than a third (36%) of Blue Badge holders say they've turned up somewhere to park only to find the accessible bay has been 'stolen' by someone without a disability permit.
