The current season is important for a lot of players in South African football because Bafana Bafana will be participating in the FIFA World Cup next year. Who wouldn't want to be part of the squad going to the competition? That's why Terrence Mashego had to make a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns to first get regular game time at club level and, second, give himself a shot at getting back into the Bafana squad. A loan move to Durban City has opened the door to regular game time and it will no doubt build his confidence as the season progresses. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane, the 29-year-old left-back discusses his move to KZN, where he is working with head coach Gavin Hunt.

a lot of things that are discussed, like the loan fee and the salary and who is going to pay what percentage and all that stuff. In my situation, they told me Durban City had enquired, and they asked if I was interested and I told them I am interested. I enjoy being on the coast. I played in Mthatha and in Cape Town, so it's not about distance for me. It's about game time.
TM: Did the Sporting Director and coach see where you were coming from in terms of wanting game time?
TM: Yes, I'd say so. It was a long process, but a smooth process. Two days before coming to Durban City, I spoke to the chairman (Farook Kadodia) and he told me about the team in terms of the personnel, the structure and what they are trying to achieve. He asked me about my personal goals, and I told him about what I wanted to achieve this season. We had a nice discussion. I also spoke to coach Gavin (Hunt). He wanted to find out if I was okay and happy to join the team and I told him that I am happy and ready to play football.
TM: Did you ever consider making a permanent move rather than a loan move?
TM: I needed game time, they suggested a loan move, and I said it was perfect. For me, it's about playing football.

The ball fell into our court
Delmain Faver: Sundowns lost out on all the domestic cups, but you were able to redeem yourselves in the end and take the big fish. Would you say that winning the CAF Champions League made up for losing the league title?

Mbule gone! What next?
Orlando Pirates confirmed the departure of Sipho Mbule after just one season with the club. The midfielder leaves the Buccaneers under a bit of a dark cloud with many stories doing the rounds of social media platforms, as was the case with his departures from SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, where he spent a season on loan from the Brazilians. The bad press around the 28-year-old midfielder, which comes from various media sources, is surely not good for his career, and this could see clubs being concerned about signing him or offering a long-term deal for his services. With the transfer window opening at the start of July, Soccer Laduma looks into some challenges he could face and where he could end up playing his football.

We got to the top at the right time
Winning automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership for Kruger United was not only about what happened on the pitch. Off the pitch, the club put together a team of individuals who played a role in making sure that the team was running properly to achieve their goals this season. One of those individuals is Sporting Director Elasto Kapowezha, a man with tons of experience from working at various clubs since retiring from the game many years ago. Kruger won promotion and now Kapowezha has the big task of ensuring they are well prepared for the top-flight.
