The current season is important for a lot of players in South African football because Bafana Bafana will be participating in the FIFA World Cup next year. Who wouldn't want to be part of the squad going to the competition? That's why Terrence Mashego had to make a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns to first get regular game time at club level and, second, give himself a shot at getting back into the Bafana squad. A loan move to Durban City has opened the door to regular game time and it will no doubt build his confidence as the season progresses. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane, the 29-year-old left-back discusses his move to KZN, where he is working with head coach Gavin Hunt.

a lot of things that are discussed, like the loan fee and the salary and who is going to pay what percentage and all that stuff. In my situation, they told me Durban City had enquired, and they asked if I was interested and I told them I am interested. I enjoy being on the coast. I played in Mthatha and in Cape Town, so it's not about distance for me. It's about game time.
TM: Did the Sporting Director and coach see where you were coming from in terms of wanting game time?
TM: Yes, I'd say so. It was a long process, but a smooth process. Two days before coming to Durban City, I spoke to the chairman (Farook Kadodia) and he told me about the team in terms of the personnel, the structure and what they are trying to achieve. He asked me about my personal goals, and I told him about what I wanted to achieve this season. We had a nice discussion. I also spoke to coach Gavin (Hunt). He wanted to find out if I was okay and happy to join the team and I told him that I am happy and ready to play football.
TM: Did you ever consider making a permanent move rather than a loan move?
TM: I needed game time, they suggested a loan move, and I said it was perfect. For me, it's about playing football.

I couldn't believe how Dr Khoza opened his heart
We witnessed the Soweto derby over the weekend, and this is always one game that gets the attention of the whole country and even parts of the continent whenever it is taking place. Without disrespecting other teams, this is a game that dignifies the South African football and one game that gets used by the world to measure our standard. This is a game that is rated among the best derbies in the world and that speaks volume about thense two teams and they deserve credit.

I don't have anything against coach Rhulani
Simba SC midfielder Neo Maema has been in the news lately over unpaid Bafana Bafana bonuses from last year's African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign. However, there's more to “Billy” than just national team issues. Soccer Laduma's Tiyani wa ka Mabasa tracked him down to talk about Simba SC, Mamelodi Sundowns and how coach Rhulani Mokwena ignited his fire when all seemed lost.

Chiefs need a recognised head coach
My tweet came from a broken heart. It came from watching players who didn't show character, hunger, or pride in defending the badge they were wearing.

I was prepared for us to suffer
Just days after guiding his side to a Nedbank Cup victory over Orlando Pirates, Casric Stars coach Bucs Mthombeni had to quickly shift his focus back to league matters. His team followed up that historic night at the Orlando Amstel Arena with a hard-fought 1-0 win over The Bees FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, showing that their cup heroics were no fluke. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Masebe Qina, Mthombeni opens up about the importance of maintaining momentum in the league, the defensive discipline that has become the backbone of his team, and the emotions of eliminating one of the country's biggest clubs.

It was a very difficult decision
When Fadlu Davids began his coaching career as Ernst Middendorp’s assistant at Maritzburg United, very few would have predicted that his career would take the trajectory it did.
