'We can't buy British if jobs are going and companies are closing because of the terrible decisions Labour is making on the economy'

KEMI Badenoch has issued a rallying “Buy British” cry to protect UK businesses from Labour's punishing jobs tax and President Trump’s tariffs.

The Tory leader claimed that the policies of Sir Keir Starmer’s Government have both smashed confidence and stifled growth.

Ministers have faced increasing demands to support such a “Buy British” campaign as fears intensify over Mr Trump’s trade penalties, and the effects of tax changes leave farmers worrying for their futures.

Washington has battered Britain with a 10% tariff on practically all UK goods entering the US - the world’s biggest economy. The move is expected to damage exporters and dampen domestic growth.

Mrs Badenoch said that she believes in “always” buying British and, where possible, buying local.

To help boost the nation's businesses, the Daily Express is today launching an It's Time to Buy British! crusade. Our campaign urges shoppers to buy British produce and goods made by UK companies.

However, Mrs Badenoch added: “But we can’t buy British if British jobs are going and if British companies are closing because of the jobs tax and because of the terrible decisions that Labour is making on the economy.

“Inflation is up, growth has halved and business confidence is down, and that’s what really worries me — that we won't be able to buy British because of what is happening to our economy.”
