'Ruth's contribution to breaking Enigma cypher was truly historic'

CODEBREAKER Ruth Bourne has died aged 99, a veterans charity has said.
The Second World War hero worked at sites around Bletchley Park as an operator and checker of the Bombe machine — a device created by Alan Turing and his team to crack Germany’s Enigma code.
After joining the Women’s Royal Naval Service at 18, Ruth was chosen to work at the secret site in Buckinghamshire to decode intercepted Nazi messages.
In 2018, she was awarded the Legion d’honneur — France’s highest military honour — in recognition of her service.
The Taxi Charity for Military Veterans paid tribute, saying: "Ruth's contribution to the monumental task of breaking the Enigma cypher was truly historic.
