There's no calling time on Speaking Clock

THE Scot who is the voice of the Speaking Clock has revealed he is still telling the time to more than 10 million people every year.

Alan Steadman said demand to hear his dulcet tones on the BT service remains high despite almost the entire UK population having access to the time on a digital device.

The retired civil servant from Broughty Ferry, Dundee, became the new voice at the end of the line in 2016 - the first non-English voice to be chosen for the role.

He was announced as the winner of a nationwide competition, with his name displayed in lights at the top of the BT Tower.

Mr Steadman told how the Speaking Clock is still popular during time-sensitive national events and because of its accuracy.
