Pressure on Scots gang leader as UAE cracks down on organised crime

THE latest arrest in Abu Dhabi of a key organised crime figure has further increased the pressure on the man behind the current ongoing gang war in Scotland, according to legal experts.

Ross “Miami” McGill has been living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for months during which he has sparked a country-wide feud back home.

But yesterday, it was announced that the authorities in Abu Dhabi had arrested a high-ranking member of one of the world’s most-wanted drug cartels.

Dritan Gjika worked for the Irish-based Kinahan Organised Crime Group (OCG) whose top-tier members have each had a $5million bounty placed on their heads by the US Government.

The Albanian had settled in neighbouring Dubai as it was well known that, in the past, if individuals did not do anything to adversely affect day-to-life in the emirate then they would be left alone.

But recently, that approach has changed and a crackdown has been implemented upon those deemed “undesirables” by the UAE. This was highlighted last month with the deportation of Sean McGovern from Dubai.

As previously reported in the Scottish Daily Express, the 39-year-old Dubliner was the right-hand man to Daniel Kinahan head of the Kinahan OCG.

Upon returning to Ireland, McGovern was charged with the murder of Noel “Duck Egg” Kirwan, a 62-year-old who was shot dead in Clondalkin in December 2016.
