Nats 'hammering Scots to plug black hole they created'

Last night the SNP was accused of “hammering” hard-working Scots.

Experts have suggested more than half of Scotland's 2.6 million homes are in the “wrong band” due to decades of changing property prices.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) calculated that one in four households will pay more after a revaluation, with 10% paying at least an extra £500 a year.

Council tax is based on 1991 property values. That was the year it was brought in.

Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee has now suggested they were looking at the current system and seeing whether it was fair. He claimed “the reality is there would be winners and losers” as he added that some people could see their band change “significantly.”
