England will keep Archer’s powder dry if necessary

ENGLAND are prepared to keep Jofra Archer out of danger if T20 match conditions could put his Ashes place at risk.

- By Gary Fitzgerald

Captain Harry Brook admits the amount of cricket ahead of the fast bowler this winter means it must be safety first for the star bowler.

Archer, who recovered from a lengthy spell of serious injuries to get his Test career back on track this summer, was removed from the firing line for the opening clash against South Africa due to the weather in Cardiff.

And if the expected showers hit and disrupt both the games in Manchester today and Nottingham on Sunday it is likely to leave the paceman a frustrated onlooker again.
