Closure of social hubs 'helped to fuel riots'

THE closure of community spaces fuelled a “tinderbox” for the far-right that sparked the Southport riots last year, a leading think tank has said.

Losing youth clubs, leisure centres, pubs and piers led to a “weakening of social fabric” which left communities much more vulnerable to dangerous influences, the Institute For Public Policy Research warned.
