A decade on, she admits indy betrayal

NICOLA Sturgeon admitted she and SNP officials were plotting a campaign for a second independence referendum within minutes of defeat in 2014 - despite pledging to respect the result.

The former SNP leader spearheaded much of the campaign to break up the UK but was left heartbroken when Scots voted decisively to remain in the Union by 55.3% to 44.7%.

She has now indicated she, Alex Salmond, and John Swinney were looking for “something to work with” as soon as they convened at Bute House in the immediate aftermath of the result in the early hours of September 19, 2014.

Mr Salmond had signed the Edinburgh Agreement that paved the way for the referendum in 2012. In doing so, he agreed the poll would deliver a “result that everyone will respect”.
